Two Shows In Two Nights

It's been a music marathon for the last two days here in T.O.

Thursday night was Me First and the Gimme Gimmes at the Phoenix. Nothing like rocking out with some of my favourite punks (Joey Cape, Fat Mike, Chris Shiflett) as they ripped through a set of decidedly un-punk songs by Bob Denver, Simon & Garfunkel, The Dixie Chicks and R. Kelly. Funniest part was how they introduced each song with, "This next one's a cover..."

Drank a few beers at that show, which made it seem like a really good idea to go to the Bovine Sex Club and drink more beer after the show. However, on Friday morning, turned out it wasn't such a good idea after all.

Then last night was The Constantines at Lee's Palace. Amazing show! Didn't blow our minds the way they did when Kelly and I saw them at the 'Shoe this past Spring but they definitely did not disappoint. They played tons of our favourites - Shine a Light, Hotline Operator, On to You, Soon Enough - and closed the show with a second encore in which they pulled all their friends on stage (in typical Constantines manner) for full wall-of-sound effect on Draw Us Lines. Yes!

Did the Gimmes play "Stairway to Heaven"?
